They have a robust body with barbels on either side of the upper jaw, which help them search for food along the bottom of water bodies.

Their ability to tolerate poor water quality and fluctuating conditions makes them resilient and widely distributed. As bottom feeders, they play an important ecological role by helping to keep the substrate clean.

In some cultures, carp is considered a delicacy, especially during certain holidays or celebrations.
